BOUNDLESS marks the first new media art exhibition of Maria Remedios Olivares at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The exhibit title refers to her works as token of the ever-repeating patterns found in nature and the cosmos. Presented in fourteen artworks is the artist’s exploration on fractal art as affirmation of the long historical relationship between art and mathematics and the birthing of her own artistic evolution with the emergence of fractal art as artform.
An encomium in color, Boundless is an adventure into the kaleidoscope of patterns and colors. It is a display of spiral motifs that carry within them the story of the infinite relationship that governs life. Boundless pays tribute to the many messengers who have told this story—nature, included. Ergo, the flora in Bloom, Celestial Garden and Glass Orchid (see Estrellado) and the concentric ways of hurricanes in Tandava. In this exhibit are five works named after the songs of Joey Ayala which give an engaging spark on the ruminations of self, identity, geography or territories (see Menestral).
